Grass roots
In 1930, long before it was trendy or politically correct, a young
Danish forester named Flemming Juncker, was searching for ways to improve
the utilization of one of his countrys precious natural resources
wood. At the time there was an abundance of smaller diameter logs
that could not be used for furniture or industrial production. This wood
was viewed as unusable or waste wood. In order to make use of this wood,
Flemming Juncker developed specific machinery and pioneered innovative
manufacturing techniques to incorporate these logs into solid wood flooring.
When the beautiful, precision milled flooring was brought to market
his flooring company was born.
Today, Junckers is in partnership with many forest owners and still purchases
the smaller logs that help found the company 70 years ago. Although much
has changed with the addition of state-oftheart equipment,
Junckers mission remains the same - - Craft fine quality solid hardwood
flooring, and use 100% of the wood harvested.
Reforestation
In the late 1800s a Danish law required vigorous replanting schedules
and responsible forestry harvesting. This law is still in effect today
and has lead to a significant increase in forested land for the past 100
years. To ensure the continued success of this positive trend, Junckers
has recently become a member of the new Pan-European Forest Certification
(PEFC) -- a third party organization certifying that timber is harvested
in accordance within international guidelines on sustainable forestry.
As more of Europes forests become certified by PEFC, Junckers will
work toward purchasing timber exclusively through registered, sustainable
forest growers and soon will be carrying the PEFC brand on all its packaging.
Indoor Environment
Junckers floors are produced without the use of insecticides or laminating
adhesives. This ensures that hazardous substances such as volatile organic
solvents are not being introduced into the air. Since Junckers floors
do not harbor dust, a healthy indoor environment can be created and maintained
- ideal for those suffering from allergies. Junckers has been recognized
by a number of Indoor Environment Associations including being awarded
a Healthy Indoor Climate Certification by the Danish Technological Institute
and a Seal of Approval from the British Allergy Foundation.
Junckers is very open and proud of its environmental policies. If you
